God is not a part of created reality. Rather, created reality is sustained in being by divine intention. Therefore nothing exists apart from God’s intention and immanent presence (Col 1:16-17). In this way, God is present in every human experience and creation itself.
Sometimes people think that situations of suffering, malice, or disaster are signs of God’s absence or punishment. That is not true. God is especially close to those who suffer particularly when they are not assisted by others. God is even present to us in our moments of weakness and sin for where sin abounds grace abounds even more (Rom 5:20). God seeks out the lost and hopes for conversion of the wayward.
God is present in every part of our day. When our senses are blinded by sin, distraction, ignorance, or difficult life circumstances then conversion, recollection, and prayer can help us seek the Lord with confidence.
