It should be pretty clear from the first chapters of the Bible that all human beings receive their value and dignity from God in whose image and likeness we are created. God values each human being as a beloved son or daughter and desires to perfect us in love through divine
friendship.
This dignity and value is God-given and can never be taken away from us. Even when we rejectGod our value remains intact because God desires everyone’s salvation, especially that of prodigal sons and daughters.
This inherent and indelible value is what motivates Catholics to protect and promote human life in all its stages and circumstances and to seek everyone’s redemption. Our value does not increase with wealth or decrease with poverty; one race is not of greater value than another. Our value remains whether we be young or old, infirmed or healthy, saint or sinner.
