Does medical intervention subvert God's will?

God Always Desires To Save Us

Sometimes people think that medical problems are a sign of God’s abandonment or punishment. Such thinking is contrary to the message of the Gospel. While God may permit health issues as part of our imperfect natural reality, which is wounded by sin, God always desires to save us.

Rather than seeing health problems as a definitive sign of God’s will, we should understand that such situations are meant to be for individual salvation and for the glory of God.

To treat medical problems is not contrary to God’s will. Rather, such treatment is often in full accord with God’s will. It is often through these treatments that God’s saving work is accomplished and that an individual comes to faith. This can happen through healing or through the loving accompaniment and care of family, nurses and doctors who lead an individual to acceptance, gratitude and trust even when their problems persist.
