Can faith help heal polarization in our country?

Yes

Faith can be a uniting factor in our nation insofar as it provides a common set of ethical standards and ideals which overcome both prejudice and preference. In its nature, faith deals with the transcendent and calls people beyond their tendency for self-concern.

There is a danger, however. It would be necessary for such a faith to value all people with equal dignity. It would also need to assist others in conforming their lives to the true, good and beautiful, and guide the person into harmony with self, others and their creator. This is opposed to using faith to dominate others, regard others with lesser dignity, or to subjugate religion as an instrument of the state.

Finally, such a faith should properly value the eternal nature of the human soul because with this trust in God’s ultimate sovereignty, individual actions will be tempered by the awareness of ultimate divine justice.
