Statement of Most Reverend Bishop Daniel Mueggenborg on the Death of Sir Thomas S. Dolan

Statement of

Most Reverend Daniel H. Mueggenborg

To the Church in the Diocese of Reno on the death of

Sir Thomas S Dolan

Knight in the Order of Saint Gregory the Great

My brothers and sisters in Christ,

It is with sadness that I inform you of the recent death of Sir Thomas S. Dolan. As you may recall, Sir Dolan was recently chosen by Pope Francis to become a Knight in the Papal Order of Saint Gregory the Great. This esteemed recognition was rightfully bestowed upon our brother in light of his heroic efforts on behalf of the Catholic Church and our civic community. We have lost a great man, a great Catholic, and a great Reno leader in the passing of Thomas Dolan.

I wish to extend my personal condolences to his family, friends, and coworkers who were blessed to experience his love and kindness. Please be assured of my personal prayers for you as you mourn the loss of your friend, father, and grandfather.

As a sign of God’s grace and favor, our brother Tom received the Last Rites just a few days before his death as he was Anointed, given Communion, and received the Apostolic Pardon. Trusting in God’s eternal mercy, we commend our brother to the Lord that together with all who have died in Christ, he may rise with Him on the last day.

On behalf of Pope Francis, I wish to thank the Dolan family for the care they extended to our brother Tom during his final weeks of infirmity. I also wish to thank them for their solidarity with our brother in his many philanthropic works benefiting both the Church and society.

Funeral arrangements will be as follows:

5:30 PM — Rosary and Visitation on Monday, September 23rd, at Saint Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Reno.

11:00 AM — Funeral Mass on Tuesday, September 24th, at Saint Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Reno.

Given this day, 13 September 2024, at the Chancery in Reno, Nevada,

With every best wish and an assurance of prayer, I remain,

Yours in Christ,

Most Rev. Daniel H. Mueggenborg
