Special Concert on Original Music in the California Missions
The National Pastoral Musicians Convention will be held at the Nugget Casino Resort in Sparks this month, July 10-14. St. Thomas Aquinas Cathedral will be the locale for one of the concerts being offered for the convention. It will be on Wednesday, July 12, at 7:30pm and will be free admission. The concert looks to be quite interesting and beautiful with a focus on the music in the California missions 200 years ago. All are welcome.

Details on session from NPM.org website: Over two hundred years ago, when, in Europe, Mozart was at peak popularity and Beethoven was still a youth, the California Missions resounded with the sound of choir and orchestra. On the opposite side of the North American continent, the simple a cappella hymns and fuguing tunes of William Billings represented the pinnacle of European composition; but at the missions, orchestras and choirs composed of indigenous children and conducted by friars performed routinely in the California missions. Join Chorus Angelorum & the California Mission Sinfonia to experience this oldest scion of choral-orchestral European music in the territory of today’s United States.
