A Walk In Unity: 6th Annual Lizzy Hammond Foundation Walk/Run Held November 3, 2024

The 6th Annual Lizzy Hammond 5k Fun Run/Walk was a successful event with over 250 participants and attendees- many from Reno area parishes and Catholic schools. It featured food trucks, an auction with exciting prizes, face painting, and costume contests, making it a fun-filled day for all. This event serves as the sole fundraiser for the Lizzy Hammond Foundation, supporting its important cause.

The Lizzy Hammond Foundation was created in 2019, after Lizzy was killed in a bounce house that went airborne with four children in it.  The Bounce House flew into power lines in S Reno, Lizzy, age 9, suffered blunt force trauma and became an organ donor that week. Lizzy was a student at St. Albert the Great Catholic School. Her parents and family are parishioners at St. Albert the Great.

10,000 children each year are injured in bounce houses and in 2024 YTD in the US, three children were lost to death: a two  year-old in Arizona, a five year-old in Maryland and another five year-old in Texas.

The mission is to bring awareness and educate parents about safety practices.  The Foundation attends as many local events as possible “Tabling” for educational purposes for families.  The organization seeks a law for the State of Nevada to guide proper use.  Another feature of our Foundation is our Community Outreach, they completed 55 Easter Baskets in 2023 for Operation Easter Basket with the Catholic Charities (Operation Easter was one of Lizzy’s favorite non-profits to support).

This year, the foundation made 350 Law Enforcement Appreciation bags for Northern Nevada local agencies (Lizzy used to make LEO bags for her dad’s agency) and made a complete meal for the Ronald McDonald House (Lizzy would help her mother make meals for them when her mother was in Lions and they used Ronald McDonald House room at Renown. Lizzy was also named their hero for their 2019 event).

The Lizzy Hammond Foundation are always seeking volunteers, support and donations. Reach out to the foundation via email at lizzyhammondfoundation@gmail.com or call (775) 846-3967. More information below, including next year’s registration for event being held on Sunday, November 2, 2025.
